How to set up a training room

Training room

Setting up a training room for your Novus training system is pretty straightfoward - in fact you may already have a lot of the things you need to make it work.

Firstly you will need a room

Some of our clients use existing meeting rooms but a couple have actually installed portakabins onsite - often near to the gatehouse so that they can fully induct contractors before they even enter the site. The room can be fairly basic but should have comfortable chairs and be a good temperature. Our wireless response system can use up to 250 handsets - but usually we see training rooms that hold between 20-50 people.

Audio Visual system and PC

The training room will need a display that is large enough for everyone to see - this could be a plasma or a projector and screen. For trainees to be able to hear the voiceovers you’ll need some sort of speaker system as well - although we’ve seen successful setups where the sound comes through the projector or the plasma - so you may not have to install separate sound equipment. Finally you’ll need a PC running Windows that is connected to your intranet or the internet - this link is vital as the training system runs in Internet Explorer.

Group Responder system

The Novus Group responder system can be ordered directly from us. For each training room you have you will need a base unit and a number of handsets. We recommend that you also purchase flight cases for this kit so that it is kept well protected and that way it will last for many years. A good starter pack might be a base unit and 30 handsets - then you can add more as your training needs grow.

Installation

We don’t usually install AV Systems or PCs as these are usually done by your suppliers or internal IT but we are happy to assist with this if you need help as we know some great suppliers.

Once you’ve got the AV and PC system setup you should unpack your Group Responder pack and plug it together.

Finally plug the USB cable into your PC. At this point the computer will recognise that something has been plugged in and ask for a driver disc. Put in your CD and the driver will be installed from this. After this run the setup.exe that is on the CD and install our software and you should be ready to go!

Alternatively we can supply your IT dept with the files so that they can ‘auto-deploy’ them to all machines!

Fire up Novus and try running a Group Induction!
